Supervisory authority

  • Article 51 GDPR imposes obligations on Member States regarding the supervisory authority responsible for monitoring the application of GDPR.

The supervisory authority in Poland

Poland, like other Member States, has an obligation to ensure that at least one independent public authority is responsible for monitoring the application of GDPR.

The supervisory authority in Poland is the President of the Office for the Protection of Personal Data (‘PUODO’), which was created as a result of the transformation from the General Inspector of Personal Data Protection.

GDPR allows for more than one supervisory authority, which is the case, for example, in Germany.
